| About | If Kyle Wellwood's career pattern remains true to form, he'll experience a breakout season this year, lead the Maple Leafs in scoring and establish himself as an elite offensive player in the NHL. Scoff at the notion if you will, but Wellwood has a history of taking a year to find his game, then exploding offensively in his second season. He did it with the Belleville Bulls of the Ontario Hockey League and with the St. John's Maple Leafs of the American Hockey League prior to joining the Leafs as a rookie last season. If he does, the Leafs can expect something in the range of 80 points from Wellwood in 2006-07, which would be an enormous leap from the 45 points he put up last season. The possibility exists, largely because Wellwood will feel much more comfortable and enjoy more scoring opportunities. |
