| About | Inversiones Serro Maria, Ltda. , (ISM) is a producer and marketer of Anthracite, Coking, and Thermal or Steam coal in Colombia. ISM's customer base includes major utilities and industrial users in Colombia, Ecuador, Venezuela, Mexico, and the United States of America. Our coal is used to power cement plants, the manufacturing of steel and iron, as well as other industrial and domestic uses. Coal is the most important fuel for electricity generation. Its operations are Strategically located in the state of Boyaca in Colombia. Both abundant long-lived reserves and mine acquisitions have provided us solid growth opportunities since we began operations in 2008. We take pride in what we do. Our coal is used to power cement plants, the manufacturing of steel and iron, as well as other industrial and domestic uses. Our abundant reserves and underground mining operations allow us to extract the following types of Coal: Anthracite Often used in domestic and industrial operations. It contains the least amount of impurities and the highest content of carbon of all coals. Its heating value is slightly lower than bituminous coal. Coking coal It provides the fuel necessary to manufacture both steel and iron products. It is also used to power cement plants, chemical plants, and paper mills among others. Steam or Thermal coal It is used mostly for power generation. There are manufacturing facilities using this type of coal to produce electricity and / or steam. |
