| About | Inna Gem is located in Boulder, Colorado and is a part of Mckenna Gems, LLC, a project started by Mckenna Praetorius in an effort to help popularize and distribute the rare, unique and amazing gems of the world. While still carrying a large inventory of rough, faceted, cabbed, and specimens of the most phenomenal gems and minerals, the focus of Inna Gem has narrowed to Ethiopian Opals. Ethiopian opals have some of the most fantastic patterns and colors found across the spectrum of fine gemstones, each displaying characteristics and patterns unique to themselves alone. Previously the only opals extracted from Ethiopia came from the Mezezo region, but their apparent stability was misleading, commonly resulting in the stones from this deposit cracking with the wear of time. After trying to work with such stones from the Mezezo deposit and watching gem after beautiful gem crack, Inna Gem maintained that treating them was never an option. In early 2008 the Welo area uncovered very similar opals to the Mezezo area. This new deposit yielded opals that proved to be entirely more stable (if not 100% stable!) than their Mezezo cousins, and carried an even more diverse array of base colors, patterns, as well as almost consistently blindingly bright plays of colors, in shades seen nowhere else in the natural world. The find is a truly amazing gift that Inna Gem wants to be a part of distributing among the world. |
