About | We have been making high grade charcoal from aged and very slow growing trees called Noko-Noko. Charcoal from this wood is of exceptional quality due to the super hardwood raw material. Noko-Noko is found in the rain forest rim of the Viti Levu highlands in the Fiji Islands. Long ago before missionaries came into the South Pacific indigenous Fijian people used this wood as a their primary fighting club becasue of its highest density and durability (hence the name Noko-Noko in the Fijian language means super hard) This wood was also carbonised in sand holes and the charcoal turned into pots for food keeping, made into powder as medicine for war injuries (high anti-bacterial characteristics) and cosmetic for young women to paint their bodies. Also was it used as water purifiers as large charcoal logs were made into hollow water containers. Now our company has a plentiful supply of NokoNoko trees that we are harvesting and making the finnest charchal available. These trees were replanted in 1975 and we are just beginning to re harvest our famous NokoNoko wood and charcoal. Our kilns are traditional kilns that slow cool the amber the old traditional way make some of the finnest pieces of charcoal available. |
