These are: DA-1 Events, Production Management and Promotions DA-2 Training and Consultancy DA-3 Artiste and company Management - PROFESSIONALISING THE ARTS AND CULTURE INDUSTRY In Nigeria, the roles of the artiste, manager, promoter and producer tend to be combined in one individual. This actually militates against quality in the performing arts. Current formal arts training although it places emphasis on the performance aspects {i. E. Acting, stage management and theatre management}, has its limitations in that areas, which encourage his creativity and affords him fulfillment, are not covered. Areas such as marketing, financial management {including fund-raising} are vital to the acceptance and survival of the artist and to the fulfillment of this responsibility to himself as a reflection of what goes on in society. We need to map out areas of specialization such as performance, promotion and management and give appropriate training in these areas. The training of our arts and culture practitioners must arm them with the requisite skills to enable them perform in society as skilled professionals. This will ensure that with that artistic and cultural productions have an integrated approach that will enhance standards and quality of performance and production. |
