About | Are you a connoisseur of quality scale models? What are the differences between a bad and good model? How do you tell if a model is of a high quality? If you are still searching for the answers, you have come to the right place. First and foremost, we need to be clear that a model should entail an exact replica of what is being replicated. Hence, communication between ourselves and the client should be of utmost importance. This has to be the key first step to produce a good model as the model makers (in this case, ourselves), would need to acquire the relevant information like lines plans, detail drawings and paint specifications. Many a times, we see models of our competitors with poor detailing or shoddy craftmanship. Sometimes we point them out and we get asked: How do you define the level of details? A scale model with good detailing would exhibit the most minute or miniscule of details(For good detailing to be manifested, clients must be willing to partake in this beautiful project. They need to give us the relevant detail drawings or photos for the finer details). For example, if piping drawings are given, the diameter of pipes can go as small as 0.8mm. Poor paintwork on scale models can be instantly seen by the naked eye. When you see a scale model with many "tears" flowing down the paint surface, you know the paintwork is poor. Aside from a smooth spraypainting job, our paintwork contains lacquer to give the deserving model a beautiful, glossy asesthetic finish. Sometimes, a minority of our clients do request for a matt finish that we don't really recommend. Apart from the reason given earlier for a glossy asesthetic finish, paintwork without lacquer would age or turn mouldy after a few years. Hence, spray painting with lacquer is definitely recommended. And there you have it . The key ingredients for a good model - communication, level of detail and paintwork with lacquer. |
